What a weekend...

Well we started out the weekend with going to the KU Relays, Kaden and I, on thurs and friday afternoon, they are always fun and Kaden was funny cheering the runners on. I got to see a good friend from high school there (coaching) and got to see a couple of my high school c.c. girls run in college!! They did very well.

Sat. morning we headed out for errands on a dreary day, but it was fun. We havent done shopping and all that as a family for a long time. And I know how much Brett LOVES to shop, but it was good. We stopped at my grandparents and got to spend some time with them as well and they are just so cute! They love Kaden so much and always have a good time.

We headed home for a nap, Kaden and I, and Brett worked his tail off in the front yard, it looks great! Then I made a pasta dinner for everyone b/c Steph and I ran Sunday morning. I ran a half marathon and Steph ran a 10K. She did awesome and I need to try to convince her to run another marathon with me now! The half marathon was a different course this year, much hard/hillier, and it was very breezy! But...I think I still ran my best time ever. I was the 4th female in and 3rd in my age group I think. So that was pretty good.

We got home and I never feel well after I race those kinds of races, so I took a shower and was laying on the couch with Kaden and Brett came up from the basement and said.."well we have about an inch or so of water all over our basement!!" WHAT!!! Yes, our basement was flooded! So I got myself up and headed down to help and see the damage. Yep, EVERYWHERE, there was water EVERYWHERE. We had a bad storm the night before and the electricity went out for about 4 hrs and at 2 in the morning I wasnt thinking of the sump pump. A LOT of it had run back down the sump pump b/c you can see how far up it went, more than an inch! So, we started with rags, mops, shop vac and tried getting all of the water soaked up. I was moving everything I could out of the way, getting it up off the floor and into our garage. We have tons of KU memorabilia down there in boxes that we just havent gotten up, wedding pictures, baby pictures, old tapes, I dont even know, all ruined!! They pictures got soaked up the backs of the frames, stuffed animals still soaked, pictures layed out everywhere drying, newspaper clippings, Final 4 "stuff" drying out...FUN TIMES!!! So what was supposed to be a relaxing day after a half marathon turned into...well not so relaxing.

The thing was that, I was really not feeling well and Kaden had a bday party at 1, so I had to get ready for that and my awesome mom and sister were over helping Brett for hours cleaning everything up. What a great family I have!
So Kaden and I went to Kiera's bday party at this gymnastics place...what a ball!! He's never done anything like it, and had a BLAST. Made my aweful thoughts about the basement and not being there to help, go away b/c he was just having so much fun!

After the party, we did a bath (he sweat so much running around) and he crashed, just like I had hoped! So down I went to help clean more and we just kept at it. Finally I told Brett to take a break, his back was just about done, so he layed down for a while. We went to my moms house for dinner, nice not to have to think about that too, and it was great!

Monday I started calling our insurance and my awesome friend Kristi advised me on calling a carpet care person. He headed out to the house, test everything and alllllll the carpet was soaked (I only thought it was in a couple spots on the carpet) and the walls were wet as well. So he started placing fans and humidifiers so no mold/mildew grows and out came the carpet padding, it was alllll ruined. So there went a HEAFTY check for our insurance deductible. Finally insurance called me back and at least its in our coverage and now comes all the leg work of filing what got ruined, getting Terry to come install new padding and maybe new carpet(I hope)and getting the adjuster to note all the damage as well. Geez, what a mess. So that's that, always something exciting/busy with us! It'll all get done, but not really how you ever want to spend a good amount of money...on water damage, no thanks!!! But thank goodness for insurance!

So we'll see what happens next, I'll keep you posted.

I do know that we found out some great/sad(selfishly) news last night...my sister & brother in-law are moving to Utah!! Dain, Katie's husband got a GREAT promotion and his company is sending him there for a big project. It is only for a year, but a year without Kale, is going to be DEVISTATING for Kaden and a year without Bailey, Katie, Dain and Kale for me/us is going to be horrible! However on the flip side we are so excited for them. I'm hoping it really won't be year before we see them again, I know they'll make trips back. I am jelous of Katie though, she once again gets to be a stay-at-home mommy to her little ones, so that's great! Good luck to the Hammerschmidts and we'll miss you terribly.

In the bay of Mont Saint-Michel an old manor with sumptuous woodwork opens on to an English-style park. The prestigious and romantic setting creates a special ambiance. You will be welcomed by the count and countess and the place is full of chivalrous stories and anecdotes. For two days and one night, you can enjoy the charm of this beautiful home for 124 euros per person half board.
